Introduction:
Aesthetic appreciation, including spiritual activities, is an advanced and complicated activity which is particular for human beings. He Xin referred to that aesthetics is a kind of value estimation coming from the difference, choice and measure. The combination of domestication must be a most ideal work. If translators can deal with this disparity well, the translation, undoubtedly, will be perfect.
  1 Aesthetic Appreciation
Aesthetic appreciation is a kind of complicated, advanced and unique human activity. It is the principal part of active mind. There are a series of complicated activities in aesthetic appreciation, including complicate sensory perception, mental mind, thinking way and emotional activities and so on(朱智贤, 1989: 480).
2 The disparity of aesthetic appreciation between China and Western countries
Due to difference in geographical environment, the Chinese often call to mind their experience on the field and in agricultural production. They emphasize the overall grasp of a phenomenon and intuitive perception of the implication. The English people, being adapt to their environments, start from the concrete or part and proceed to the whole.
  2.1.1Different social backgrounds
Chinese people hold that the interests of the family, of the society and of the country should have the first priority and if necessary, the individual interests can be overlooked and even sacrificed. Ancient Greece and Rome sticks to the free and democratic spirit, which emphasizes the individuality and freedom.
  2.1.2 Different religious beliefs
Religion is an important part of aesthetics. Chinese culture is influenced much by Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. People always felt a need to seek outside themselves the values by which they live their lives and guidance on how to view and explain the world.
  2.1.3 Different languages
The exchange and communication between languages are in essence the exchange between cultures. What’s more, culture is related closely with aesthetics. Thus language plays an indispensable role in aesthetics across cultures.
  2.2 The manifestations of disparity
  2.2.1 Integrity and individuality
The Chinese emphasize the integrity and synthesis. They hold the opinion that people should study the object systematically and thoroughly, but not just do research at one aspect isolated. That is the unification between human beings and nature, subject and object, subjectivity and objectivity.
2.2.2 Subject and object Chinese people stress the subject. It means the center of this thinking way is human beings themselves and their self-consciousness activities. In Chinese poetry, there are many descriptions of natural scenery. And apparently, the main is not for writing, but for expressing the emotion by the beautiful prospects and judging one person by the different things, which is going to show the circumstances of people’s existence.
  2.2.3 Intuition and Evidence
Chinese people emphasize that fell and sense everything with own heart. On the contrary, experience makes every effort to place people into the work to shorten, even eliminate the distance in mind between readers and work.
  2.2.4 Fuzziness and preciseness
Chinese culture always tries to make beauty intuitional and blend it with life, nature and especially ego, which is also imaged in Chinese language. While western aesthetics has long been insisting on studies of ontology, epistemology and axiology, which is regarded as aesthetics of epistemology, Western aesthetics and philosophers primarily probe substance existence of beauty and analyze it with reason, thinking logic, concept and reasoning.
  3 Conclusions
Different geography, social backgrounds and religious beliefs make the aesthetic disparities between China and western countries. China’s traditional culture is in pursuit of spirit, while the west seeks the truth. The study on aesthetic disparity helps the development of communication between China and the west. Recognizing the complexities of aesthetic disparity and absorbing the best, then we can successfully build a bridge of translation between China and the western countries.
