The Rise of Social Consensusism in Post-War America and Its Influence

Abstract:In the mid-20th century, social consensusism in American academia was the by-product of the cold war and American social change. Advocators held that the features of American society could be included in no class confrontation or conflict, reasonability of social function and structure, superiority of system and lifestyle, and advancement and uniqueness of American developing model. All of these linked to a basic conclusion of the US was a high consensus society in culture for its continuity of cultural tradition，harmony of cultural psychology and superiority of cultural values. Consensusism impacted significantly on post-war social reform movements and the rise of neoconservatism and multiculturalism. It?s an important force to the harmonizing process of post-war American society.
